Ryan Murphy’s new horror series stars Niecy Nash as a detective investigating a creepy, crime-plagued small town; with Courtney B. Vance, Lesley Manville, and, improbably, Travis Kelce.
9/26: "Doctor Odyssey" (Fox; Medical Drama, Travel)
Joshua Jackson stars as the new doctor on a luxury cruise ship, treating medical maladies on the high seas. Don Johnson and Hamilton’s Phillipa Soo round out the cast, with frequent guest stars.
9/27: “Great British Baking Show” (Netflix; Baking, Competition)
Cozy TV returns with a new season of Paul, Prue, Noel, and Alison welcoming another batch of lovely British bakers into the tent.
9/28: "Saturday Night Live" (NBC; Comedy, Sketch)
The venerable sketch show returns for Season 50, with icon Jean Smart hosting the premiere, with Maya Rudolph returning as Kamala Harris and James Austin Johnson taking over as Trump.
9/29: "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — The Book of Carol" (AMC; Survival, Drama)
The “Walking Dead” universe continues with this spinoff of a spinoff, focusing on Melissa McBride’s Carol searching for the titular Daryl, who has relocated to France. Sacre bleu!
MUSIC
9/27: Gavin DeGraw Chariot 20 (Pop/Rock)
DeGraw re-recorded his breakthrough album, 2003’s Chariot, with two new/unreleased tracks.
9/27: Lady Gaga Harlequin (Pop)
Surprise! Gaga drops a companion album to her new film, Joker: Folie a Deux, in which she plays Harley Quinn on the big screen.
9/27: Mickey Guyton House on Fire (Country)
One of the few black, female artists to find success in country music returns with her sophomore album.
9/27: Rahim Redcar HOPECORE (Electro, Dance)
The artist formerly known as Christine and the Queens releases his first album under his new identity.
9/27: Sophie Sophie (Electronic, Pop)
This album, a posthumous release following Sophie’s accidental death in 2021, features guest vocals by Kim Petras, Hannah Diamond, Liz, and others.
MOVIES
9/27: Apartment 7A (Paramount+; Drama, Thriller)
Julia Garner (“Ozark”) stars in this Rosemary’s Baby prequel, also featuring Dianne Wiest and Jim Sturgess, playing another young woman lured into a compromising position by a nefarious couple.
9/27: The Wild Robot (Wide; Animated, Family)
Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, and Bill Nighy provide voices for this gorgeous new Dreamworks film about a robot that unwittingly becomes the guardian of a young duckling.
9/27: Megalopolis (Wide; Sci-Fi, Drama)
Francis Ford Coppola’s surreal, controversy-baiting film stars Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, and “cancelled” actors Jon Voight and Shia LaBeouf explicitly to piss off the “woke mob.”
9/27: Wolfs (Apple TV+; Crime Drama, Action)
George Clooney and Brad Pitt star as rival “fixers” called into clean up a politician’s mess, which of course instigates even more messiness.
9/27: Will & Harper (Netflix; Documentary, LGBTQ)
Will Ferrell goes on a road trip with his longtime friend, who has recently come out as trans, introducing the country to Harper Steele as her true self.
GAMES
9/24: Ara: History Untold (PC; Sim, Strategy)
This new historical simulator allows you to build an evolve your empire with a broader range of options compared to other, more established titles.
9/24: Epic Mickey Rebrushed (PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox S|X; Action, Remake)
This remake of the 2010 Wii game features Mickey Mouse wielding a magic paintbrush as he explores a world of forgotten Disney characters; remake includes refreshed graphics and new skills.
9/26: The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom (Switch; Puzzle, Action)
In this brand-new 2D adventure, you play as Princess Zelda as she attempts to save Hyrule — and Link! — from mysterious dark fissures that threaten her kingdom.
