RECAP: “Dancing With The Stars” Season 33, Episode 2

It was Oscars night on “Dancing with the Stars,” and a double elimination to boot. There’s a lot to cover, so we’re just going to get right into it!
SPOILERS AHEAD! Consider yourself warned!
Jenn Trann (w/Sasha Farber): TANGO
Apparently there was a music volume issue on the floor, which may explain some of Jenn’s missteps, so we will go easy on her (so did the judges). Allie appreciated the acrobatics that were thrown in, and her costume was fabulous! Solid showing with 19/30.
Eric Roberts (w/Britt Stewart): WALTZ
IWTYO when i learned that Eric Roberts is an Academy Award nominee! Allie immediately felt that his costume was TOO sparkly — but we needed something to distract us from the lack of dancing. There was VERY little movement involved in this VERY slow dance. The judges reiterated that they have the utmost respect for the acting legend, and they were generous with their score of 15/30.
Danny Amendola (w/Witney Carson): JIVE
While Allie believes that Danny needs to be more expressive and smile, the football star looks GOOD on the dance floor. The quick moving and athletic jive set to Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone” from Top Gun was hot! Danny received a 21/30.
Anna Delvey (w/Ezra Sosa): QUICKSTEP
Described as a “fashionista and entrepreneur” — though Wikipedia lists her actual profession, con arts — Anna and her ankle monitor barely faked it through her performance. The judges were super nice with a score of 17/30.
Chandler Kinney (w/Brandon Armstrong): RUMBA
Last week’s leader stepped out of her Disney Channel shoes with a very sexy rumba. Chandler looked absolutely amazing and made a complicated routine look super easy. She is the one to beat with a score of 24/30.
Reginald VelJohnson (w/Emma Slater): PASO DOBLE
Reginald clapped, he gestured, and he stomped -- however, he didn’t really dance. He looked very strong and confident. But he is not a dancer. He received a 15/30.
Stephen Nedoroscik (w/Rylee Arnold): PASO DOBLE
Dancing to the theme song from 1978’s Superman, Stephen went from Clark Kent to Superman when he took off his signature specs! He looked strong and charming on the floor with a jam-packed routine! The judges gave him a 22/30.
Joey Graziadei (w/Jenna Johnson): RUMBA
This guy is still more friendly guy-next-door than sexy leading man, but he’s surprisingly good! He got a 22/30.
Phaedra Parks (w/Val Chmerkovsiy): FOXTROT
Phaedra didn’t look comfortable in this structured dance, but she still pulled off and got a big standing O from the ballroom crowd. Super respectable 21/30
Tori Spelling (w/Pasha Pashkov): RUMBA
Tori put it all out there, and hoped the stage fog distracts you from her missteps. In all honesty, she was never a very good actress, and she is having some trouble faking being a dancer. But she’s out there making her kids proud, and received a 19/30.
Dwight Howard (w/Daniella Karagach): FOXTROT
As predicted, dances in hold prove to be difficult since Daniella can barely reach Dwight’s hands in proper frame. They did great with what they could physically accomplish, and received a score of 22/30.
Brooks Nader (w/Gleb Savchenko): QUICKSTEP
They are really pushing these two as a couple, and honestly we don’t really care. Just dance. Much improved from Week 1, but I don’t think she’ll be around long. She received a score of 18/30.
Ilona Maher (w/Alan Bersten): SALSA
Allie dubbed Ilona the second best before she even took the floor (behind Chandler). We were excited to see Ilona back again! Recreating some incredible Dirty Dancing moves, Ilona is truly having the time of her life. This girl proved that you can be sexy and strong! We think she deserved more than her 21/30.
Sadly, we said goodbye to Tori Spelling at the end of the night. And happily, we sent Anna home, too.
