RECAP: “Dancing With The Stars” Season 33, Episode 6 (Disney Night)
BY Amy Pilott & Allie Pilott (age 9)
Wish upon a star, because it’s Disney night!
Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee (Charleston)
This fun and fast Hercules routine earned a quick “I like it” from Allie. Packed with some flips, this athletic performance was made for Stephen. He had so much passion that he was sometimes ahead of the music, so he received a well-deserved 24/30.
Jenn Tran and Sasha (Rumba)
Allie didn’t like the slowed-down version of one of our favorite songs from The Little Mermaid, and the fog was actually a little bit distracting, so once again, we weren’t wowed by Jenn Tran. Regardless of those technical notes, the dance lacked excitement. It wasn’t particularly sexy or charismatic. Honestly, we just aren’t “Bachelorette” fans. They received a 24/30.
Joey Graziadei and Jenna (Samba)
A clean-shaven and bewigged Joey looked like a brand new man in this Tarzan performance. This was the perfect character for the goofy-puppy-like Bachelor; he’s totally a Disney cartoon prince! Samba is a super tough dance, but Joey really proved he belongs out there. He didn’t get the 10s he was swinging for, and we think he was robbed with his score of 25/30.
Chandler Kinney and Brandon (Paso Doble)
Chandler was challenged to dig deeper this week, and she certainly did — she performed a dramatic and sharp paso doble. With that said, there may have been an unfair advantage here, since she danced to a song from her own movie, Zombies, essentially dressed as her own character. Regardless, we love her! The judges did too, giving the couple a 27/30.
Phaedra Parks and Val (Jazz)
Immediately, Allie was disappointed with the lack of real dogs in this performance. And much like the old men who were knocked out earlier in the season, Phaedra relied on some ensemble members to help spice up her routine. She’s fun and feisty, but Phaedra lacks technique. I think the judges were way too nice with a score of 24/30.
Danny Amendola and Witney (Jazz)
First, let’s talk about the fact that Deadpool and NSYNC are being featured on Disney night! Danny is once again leaning on the athleticism to stay at the top of the leaderboard, which meant amazing lifts and acrobatics. Allie LOVED IT! We may have all been sleeping on Danny at the beginning, but the Super Bowl star might be adding a Mirrorball to his trophy case. He received a 27/30.
Dwight Howard and Daniella (Tango)
Playing the big guy from Wreck-It Ralph, Dwight and Daniella used the height difference as a prop in this tango. Still quite difficult to perform in hold, Dwight did much better than last week, though we think Danny is the athlete to beat. They received a decent 24/30.
Ilona Maher and Alan (Jazz)
Inspired by Encanto, our real-life Luisa proved she is unbreakable! She is so strong AND sexy, and we love that Alan let her shine while he performed incognito as a donkey! She earned her first 9 of the competition, and received a total of 25/30.
Team Roar Dance (Stephen, Phaedra, Danny, Dwight)
Allie thought this was AMAZING, and particularly enjoyed Dwight and Stephen’s creative lift! We all know this is to help fill the two hours, and it shows that they don’t really spend so much time on these fun routines. This team received a 24/30.
Team Goofy Dance (Chandler, Ilona, Joey, Jenn)
Technically this dance had much more going for it, and it was still super fun and exciting. The judges agreed: right and tight, nothing goofy about it! And our girl Ilona showed off her strength once again, tossing Chandler around. Rightfully this team got a 27/30.
SPOILER:
Heading into the elimination, our favs Chandler and Ilona topped the leaderboard; but poor Stephen was near the bottom. Allie predicted Phaedra or Dwight would be heading home… and she was RIGHT. It was time to say goodbye to “Real Housewife” Phaedra, and I think she was probably secretly happy about it. Thankfully Stephen was safe and needs to step it up to stay out of the Bottom 3 next week!
